Listen.

Listen
It’s when you watch someone closest to you go through death and back that you awaken
It’s when you have to put your life on pause for you to realize you haven’t been living
It’s when you need an ear the most that the world goes deaf
It’s when you scroll through your phone full of contacts that you realise you have no one to call
It’s when you’re alone that you realise those that said they would be there suddenly disappear
It’s when you thought you wouldn’t survive that you become the strongest

Sure
Everyone needs someone at times
But
I don’t need no one
They say I’m stubborn, I won’t let me lean on no one at this time
Disappointed constantly by everyone all the time
Look,
I know I said I don’t need anyone
This time I need just one to listen

Are you listening?
Do I have your promised attention?
You told me to trust your intentions
So right now are you listening,
Are you listening?

The cold has a way of warming the soul
And no matter how deep it is, the fall has its way of making you stand tall
On your own
And know that all alone is when you know who is your strength
The bank you never deposited to before, the soul
That courage is withdrawn from your inner most
And family trees show you which branches your nest is stored
By blood shall we remain binded
In turmoil shall we be reminded
Of the realities of blood being thicker than water
A choice you don’t make on your own
Our stitches hold us tight so we have to walk together, united
And drop everything that we thought we would need to carry

So essentially
Everyone needs someone at times
But
I don’t need no one
They say I’m stubborn, I won’t let me lean on no one at this time
Disappointed constantly by everyone all the time
And to prove why I don’t need anyone
Lets see if
This time, when I need just one to listen
This time, when I need just one to listen

Are you listening?
Do I have your promised attention?
You told me to trust your intentions
So right now are you listening,
Are you listening?

No one said nothing
About nothing
Saw nothing
Had nothing
But inside them they’ve, hidden everything
They see and hear, convince themselves it has nothing to do with them
Minding their own business reneging on their promises
giving you their ears but covering them with anything

Are you listening?
Do I have your promised attention?
You told me to trust your intentions
So right now are you listening,
Are you listening?

The cold has a way of warming the soul
The fall has its way of making you stand tall
On your own
It’s when you need an ear the most that the world goes deaf
They come back to bask with you in the sunshine
Little did they know the rainy season that just left

So now that I have your promised attention.
