A Page Out My Natural Hair Notebook
If there’s one misconception that exists out there about natural hair and something that I’ve heard from people on the regular is that natural hair is “hard” to grow or “natural hair doesn’t grow”. However ask them what they do to their hair or how they take care of their hair, 9/10 the answer is “nothing”. In order for something to be great, work needs to go into it and this applies to natural hair. If you want healthy natural hair then you need to put in the work (this is the one thing I’m going to drill into you).
If you think you’re going to grow natural hair using the same haircare methods you used prior to becoming natural, kill that thought real quick and throw those habits in the trash. Up until I had gone natural all I knew was the creamy crack life which meant creamy crack haircare habits that I tried to bring with me on my natural hair journey. This was a big fail and my hair let me know quick fast. Natural hair is a different ball game because on top of having to unlearn haircare methods that you’ve been on for who knows how long, you also have to learn all these new ways of caring for your hair.
This is why it is important to first and foremost learn YOUR hair! I cannot stress this enough. This was the most daunting part of the natural hair journey for me because type natural hair into the search engine and you’ll be bombarded with tons of information not knowing where to start. Like when you find out that there are actually hair types and getting more shook when you see 4a, 4b, 4c looking like algebra equations. In order to build something strong and stable you need a good foundation and a good foundation for healthy natural hair is finding out your hair type and hair porosity before going into products. Once you gain an understanding of your hair it will make things easier when you start venturing into what products to use for your hair and it will also allow for you to build a good regimen based on your hairs needs. Most importantly it will SAVE you MONEY, if I could get back the money I’ve wasted on products over the years that didn’t work for my hair because I wasn’t in tune with my hair, life would be good.
Your hair is an energy so the more positive energy you put in, the more positive results it will yield.
Natural peace, love & light
